City of Atlanta Jail to Be Closed

Well this is an unusual event: Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms has signed legislation that will close the Atlanta City Detention Center, a hulking behemoth of a jail right in downtown. The new uses are somewhat disturbing (like a "Wellness Center" for indigent citizens), but I can't say I'm sad to see a relic of abusive and pointless incarceration for low level (traffic!) offenders and immigrants. Here's to shutting down a few more!
